Hurricane Policy

At UNICO Hotel Montego Bay, the safety, wellbeing, and peace of mind of our guests, team members, and surrounding community remain our highest priority. During hurricane season, we are committed to providing clear communication, preparedness measures, operational support, and commercially reasonable flexible travel options whenever weather conditions affect travel plans or Hotel’s operations.

Our decisions are guided by official advisories from the National Hurricane Center, the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), as well as airlines, airport authorities, and other relevant local government agencies, which may be taken into account together with operational, safety, and logistical factors at the sole discretion of the Hotel.

1. Reservation Protection Before Arrival

At the Hotel’s sole discretion and subject to availability and applicable rate rules, if a hurricane is forecasted to impact the destination, surrounding region, or causes travel disruptions affecting your arrival, the following options may be available:

-Rebook your stay for a future travel date
-Receive a Nights Certificate for eligible unused prepaid nights
-Modify arrival dates while preserving the original stay length, subject to availability
-Cancel eligible reservations without penalty during applicable activation periods

2. Guests Currently In-House

For guests staying at the Hotel while a hurricane impacts the region, our emergency preparedness and guest care procedures may include:

-Continuous safety updates and Hotel communications
-Shelter-in-place guidance when necessary
-Preventive relocation from exposed area
-Limited food and beverage continuity based on operating conditions and available supplies
-Emergency generator/back-up systems where applicable
-Medical assistance coordination if required
-Dedicated support from Hotel leadership and guest services
-Temporary suspension or modification of certain services and amenities as required for safety reasons

3. Early Departures

If guests choose or are required to depart earlier due to hurricane conditions, penalties for unused nights may be waived during activated policy periods. Eligible guests may receive a Nights Certificate for qualifying unused prepaid nights, at the Hotel’s discretion and subject to policy activation.

4. Extended Stay Support

If airport closures, airline cancellations, or unsafe travel conditions prevent departure, preferential extended-stay rates may be offered at the Hotel’s discretion based on room availability. Payment for additional nights is made directly at the Front Desk.

5. Relocation Assistance

When operationally feasible and at the Hotel’s discretion, guests may be offered the opportunity to relocate to another participating PAM Hotels property outside the projected storm impact zone. Same or comparable rates may apply, subject to transportation feasibility and room availability. Transportation arrangements and associated costs shall be the responsibility of the guest unless otherwise expressly stated by the Hotel.

6. Late Arrival / Delayed Check-In

Guests may arrive on the earliest available flights after the weather event and may be allowed to maintain the original number of nights booked, subject to availability.

7. Nights Certificate Terms

Any issued Nights Certificate applies only to eligible prepaid unused room nights, is non-transferable, has no cash value, is valid for 12 months from original travel date, is subject to availability, may include blackout dates or surcharges during selected travel periods, and does not include airfare, transfers, taxes, or additional services unless specified. The issuance of any Nights Certificate is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of this policy.

8. Reservations Through Third Parties

Bookings made through travel agencies, online travel agencies, tour operators, groups, weddings, or events remain subject to the terms and conditions of the original booking provider or executed contract. The Hotel shall not be responsible for any additional fees, restrictions, or policies imposed by such third-party providers.

9. Policy Activation

This policy may be activated when an official Hurricane Watch, Hurricane Warning, major travel disruption, or direct operational impact affects the destination. Activation timing and applicable benefits may vary depending on conditions. All determinations regarding activation, scope, and applicability of this policy shall be made at the Hotel’s sole discretion.

10. Need Assistance?

Reservations Department:
For airline schedules and cancellations, guests should contact their airline directly.

11. General Conditions

This policy is intended as a guideline only and does not constitute a guarantee of uninterrupted services, specific accommodations, or outcomes. All services, benefits, and operational decisions are subject to availability, safety considerations, and the Hotel’s sole discretion. The Hotel shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from weather-related events, including but not limited to travel disruptions, delays, or cancellations beyond its control.
