Storm Policy
At UNICO Hotel Montego Bay, the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of our guests, team members, and local community are our highest priority. During tropical storms, hurricanes, severe weather events, or related travel disruptions, we are committed to providing clear communication, operational support, and flexible reservation options whenever possible.
Our decisions are guided by official advisories issued by the National Hurricane Center, the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), as well as airlines, airport authorities, and other relevant local government agencies, which may be taken into account together with operational, safety, and logistical factors at the Hotel’s sole discretion.
If a guest is unable to arrive as scheduled due to flight cancellation or modification directly caused by severe weather conditions, the following options may be available at the Hotel’s sole discretion and subject to availability and applicable rate rules:
-Reschedule your stay for a future travel date.
-Receive a Nights Certificate for unused prepaid nights.
-Adjust arrival dates while maintaining the original stay length, subject to availability.
Conditions:
-Proof of airline cancellation or flight modification is required.
-Reservation deposit or prepaid guarantee must have been completed.
-Requests must be submitted within 60 days of the weather event.
-Certificate validity: up to 12 months from original travel date.
-Rebooking travel dates are subject to availability.
If flights are canceled while guests are staying at the hotel, discounted extended-stay rates may be offered at the Hotel’s discretion based on room availability.
Support may include accommodation extensions, limited food and beverage service based on operating conditions and available supplies , updated travel information, transportation coordination when available, medical assistance coordination, if required, and continuous safety communications. Certain services and amenities may be modified or temporarily suspended as required for safety reasons.
When weather conditions require operational response, and at the Hotel’s discretion, the Hotel may activate emergency preparedness procedures, including shelter-in-place protocols, restricted outdoor access, temporary suspension of selected services, preventive relocation from exposed areas, emergency announcements, and coordination with authorities.
For bookings made through travel agencies, online travel agencies, tour operators, group contracts, weddings, or events, applicable cancellation or storm policies will be determined by the original booking source or contractual agreement. The Hotel shall not be responsible for any additional fees, restrictions, or policies imposed by such third-party providers.
Any issued Nights Certificate applies only to prepaid unused room nights, is non-transferable, has no cash value, is subject to availability, may require surcharges during selected travel periods, and does not include airfare, transfers, or additional services. The issuance of any Nights Certificate is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of this policy.
This policy may be updated, modified, or applied selectively as necessary based on operational conditions, official advisories, and guest safety considerations. All determinations regarding the scope and applicability of this policy shall be made at the Hotel’s sole discretion.
